Education in Tribeca | Lower Manhattan Luxury Apartments

New York City’s public school system is one of the largest in the world, including some of the best-rated schools in the country and around 900 private schools operating in the city. Tribeca schools fall within District 2 in Manhattan and offer some of the best education options for residents of the area. Explore the nearby schools and come home to Tribeca House’s Lower Manhattan luxury apartments!

Public Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in Tribeca

Tribeca is zoned for several exceptional elementary, middle, and high schools. PS 234, the Independence School, serves Tribeca students kindergarten through 5th grade, while PS 89, the Liberty School, and PS 150, the Tribeca Learning Center, add Pre-K programs. The Tribeca Learning Center is an option school, meaning that parents whose children are zoned for other Tribeca public schools can choose to apply for PS 150 if they prefer. Tribeca Learning Center is well known for its small size, taking only 186 children total and teaching one class per grade.

Middle school age children in Tribeca can attend the Spruce Street School, which spans eighth grade, or one of the other middle schools zoned in District 2. IS 289, the Hudson River Middle School and MS 297, at 75 Morton Street both have above-average proficiency in state tests for their students.

High schoolers in Tribeca have a choice of many high schools to attend in the Manhattan area, including many specialized schools with programs geared toward a college career. Stuyvesant High School is highly sought after but only takes 800 freshman every year, while the School of the Future High School—which takes students beginning in sixth grade—is part of the New York Performance Standards Consortium, which exempts it from all but the English Regents exam and allows the school to focus on nontraditional instruction methods. The Brooklyn Technical High School and Bronx High School of Science provide hands-on, technically applied focus for their students, while the LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts is highly regarded for students aiming to pursue dance, music, fine art, or theatre in college.

Private Schools in Tribeca

Though nearly all of Tribeca’s zoned public schools turn out above-average students, many parents choose to pursue the private school options available to Manhattan-based families. Washington Market School, which takes preschool-aged children, is in Tribeca and is a Montessori-affiliated non-profit that has been in operation since 1976. The Portfolio School in Tribeca is a private school focusing on an immersive and multi-disciplinary approach, opening its doors to 6th graders in addition to K-5.

College and Higher Education

For public options in higher education, the State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY) offer many campuses and avenues of study. Columbia University needs little introduction, while The New School is a private university based in Greenwich Village. Also based in Greenwich Village is New York University, a private school recently made notable for offering tuition-free admission for students of its School of Medicine.
