Spring Cleaning Checklist | Tribeca Apartments NYC

Spring is here, although the high winds and rain may not make it feel that way. Regardless, the added daylight hours might be enough to get you thinking about sprucing up your home. Before snagging new paintings or furniture though, you’ll have to get rid of the grime left over from our long, dark Winter. Follow these spring cleaning tips to make the best Tribeca apartments NYC holds look as clean as the day you first fell in love with them.

Throughout the Apartment

Wipe walls and windows: For walls, spray with a non-abrasive all-purpose cleaner, then wipe down gently. Careful not to scrub too hard so as not to remove paint. Use Windex for mirrors and windows.

Vacuum rugs: For everyday rugs, vacuuming and spot cleaning should be sufficient. For high-end rugs without backings, including Orientals and Persians, better to enlist the services of a cleaning professional.

Dust shelves and furniture: Remove all items from shelves and go over them with a feather duster. Wipe with an all-purpose spray or wood-specific spray for wooden shelves. Dust of all furniture as well.

Wax wooden furniture: Use a soft cloth dipped in water mixed with dishwashing soap. Wipe surfaces thoroughly. Next apply a wax with a cotton rag folded up. After the wax dries, buff with a clean cloth.

Sweep and mop floors: Vacuum twice over. Sweep away any remaining dirt, and finally mop with a water and all-purpose pourable cleaner mix.

The Bathroom

Disinfect the toilet: Apply Comet Surface with Bleach Disinfectant Cleanser to the insides of the toilet bowl. Use a toilet brush and scrub generously. Flush the toilet. Use an all-purpose spray against the rest of the toilet surface, including the underside of the lid and rim.

Scrub sink, tub, and surfaces: You can use an all-purpose cleaner, tub cleaner, vinegar mix, or baking soda mix to scrub the tub. An all-purpose cleaner for the sink and surfaces is fine.

Clean the medicine cabinet: Don't forget the medicine cabinet! Grime tends to build up in the shelving, so make sure to clean it thoroughly. An all-purpose cleaner should get the job done.

The Kitchen

Organize your pantry and cupboards: Toss out expired or unused items if there are any. Rearrange items for easier access and better aesthetics.

Clean out your fridge and freezer: Empty your fridge and freezer. Wash all plastic shelving with a dishwashing soap, then dry. Throw out any expired foods.  Move perishables to the front to make sure they don’t get forgotten before their expiration date.

Wipe down all kitchen appliances: Use an all-purpose cleaner to wipe down all appliances. Dry with paper towels.

Scrub sink, countertop, and cabinets: Spray an all-purpose cleaner to sink, countertops, and cabinets. Wipe down thoroughly. For hard grime, use a baking soda mixture and scrub with the rough side of a sponge.
